A Magical Proposal: Jono Brings a Love Story to Life...with a Twist

As an award-winning magician, I have been a part of countless weddings and other special occasions. However, it wasn't until a few years ago that I realised the power of magic in a marriage proposal. I was contacted by a man in London who was planning to propose to his girlfriend, who was a fan of magic. This became a unique and exciting project for me, as he not only asked me to perform for them but also to come up with a trick that would end with a presentation of a poem he had written for her.

Being on the autism spectrum, I have a love for building tricks and props for my shows, so I was eager to take on this challenge. I spent countless hours planning and brainstorming until I finally came up with a special card trick. In this trick, the poem would end up written on a card that was selected, torn up, and then magically restored.

The day of the proposal arrived and we arranged to "accidentally" meet in the middle of Covent Garden. I was nervous as I had never done anything like this before, but I was also excited. I started with a few tricks from my usual repertoire, which went over very well with the couple. Then came the main event. I had her choose a card, which I then tore up. I gave her a piece of the card as a souvenir and made the other pieces vanish and appear in my wallet. To their amazement, the card was restored, except for the piece she kept.

But then came the twist. I showed her the restored card, which not only had her chosen card but also the poem written on the face. She read the poem through tears of joy and her partner got down on one knee and proposed. The answer was yes, and it was a moment I will never forget. The couple now have the card and poem as a keepsake of their special day.

I've come to realise that magic can add a special touch to a marriage proposal.

There are countless ways to incorporate the proposal into a trick, and it can make for a beautiful and memorable engagement gift. Whether you're a fan of magic or not, incorporating a touch of magic into a proposal can make it an unforgettable moment that you and your partner will cherish forever. If you're interested in finding out more, I have a video of this proposal that you can check out at the link below.
